Journal of Nanotechnology and Nanobiotechnology

Scanning Tunneling Microscope

A Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) is an advanced instrument used to visualize and manipulate surfaces at the atomic level. It was invented in 1981 by Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer at IBM Zurich, who later won the Nobel Prize in Physics (1986) for their work. STM operates based on the quantum tunneling effect, making it one of the most powerful tools for nanoscale imaging
