Diabetes mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by high blood glucose (sugar) levels resulting from defects in insulin production, insulin action, or both. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps regulate blood sugar by facilitating its entry into cells for energy. Without proper insulin function, glucose accumulates in the bloodstream, leading to hyperglycemia, which can cause long-term damage to various organs if left untreated.
