Gestational diabetes mellitus is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy, typically in the second or third trimester. It is characterized by high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) that were not present before pregnancy. This condition occurs when hormonal changes during pregnancy cause insulin resistance, meaning the body’s cells do not respond effectively to insulin. As a result, glucose builds up in the bloodstream
